Fair play, even when we were at our best and challenging the support wasn't there. 556!

I was thinking the same thing when I saw this, sometimes I look back to my early years as a City fan through different glasses, it wasn't always decent attendances!

Whether that game being in midweek made a difference I don't know but looking back there were some terrible crowds considering the calibre of the team we have then. Yet for the big games, they all came.

Merthyr home and away before September was over. Playing the same team twice so quickly in the league, bet that hasn't happened often.

When I saw the crowd of 556, I had to look twice at it. Sorry, was this a midweek fixture, going by the attendance, it might have been.
Thought our attendances were good that season. Was surprised by that number. This was the 1996/97 Mings / Watkins, vying with C********m for Promotion, FA Trophy Semi Final, Dagenham and Redbridge season.
I think that towards the end of the season, we had a home league match against Atherstone United, on a Thursday night. Think the crowd was around 996.

I remember this season vividly. It was my first season supporting the Club properly, having been a casual supporter up until that point.

The emotional rollercoaster was well and truly in motion that season!

20th March 1993 - Gloucester City 1 - 1 Waterlooville

Probably means nothing to anyone else - but this was my first ever city match and also my first ever football match I attended. I was 8 years old and remember walking down Sudmeadow Road expecting to see a 20,000 all seater stadium!

Isn't it funny what your expectations are as a child, I was 8 as well at my first game and I remember being surprised that the game wasn't commentated on over the loud speakers!
