What a memorable night! It's certainly in my top five City matches attended.  Big Grin

It seemed very appopriate that, when we were promoted, our first ever match at this level should be at the ground where we had such good memories. Unfortunately the result was a reversal of our previous visit to Southport  Sad

Chris Burns had assembled a Brilliant young team at that time. Likes of Matt Bath, Lee Smith, Neil Griffiths, Tom Webb, Jimmy Cox, and the rest. For a Western Division Team to beat a Vauxhall Conference Team, was an Epic achievement. Also to beat another Conference Team Woking, in the same Tournament that season.
Went to the first Conference North fixture for City, at Southport. After seasons of playing teams around Bristol, Wiltshire, and Birmingham areas, it was strange initially, to be travelling up the M5 / M6 North, towards the North West for a league fixture. Got stuck in traffic on the motorway, got to the ground just after Kick off. Was going through the turnstiles, as Mike Symons scored Gloucester's first Conference North goal.

Luckily I was still Club Doc in those days and travelled on the team coach, so got to see City's first goal at this level.

I’ve still not forgiven my old manager at Safeway for not letting me swap shifts to go to that.

I phoned the Chairman at the time when I knew we'd be late and asked if they could get the kickoff delayed. He laughed at my suggestion. Made me wonder how much the club actually valued our support.

Southport in the FA Trophy definitely in my top 5 City days. Got off sixth form especially for it. Made a (dreadful) flag. A lot of yellow pages were shredded on those coaches.

1st March 2024.

It is just as well that we don't have a game today. Our record of matches played on this date, in the 2000's, is not great.
We did alright in the 1990's.

1st March 2011. Alfreton Town (Away), (Blue Square Bet North). LOST 4 - 0.

  1st March 2014. Solihull Moors (Away), (Skrill North). LOST 2 - 1.

 1st March 2015. Oxford City (Home), (Conference North). LOST 7 - 1.

 1st March 2016. Chorley (Home), (Vanarama North). DREW 1 - 1.

1st March 2003. Weston Super Mare (Home), (Dr Martens League, Western Division). LOST 2 - 0.

1st March 1994. Dorchester Town (Away), (Beazer Homes Premier). WON 2 - 1.

 1st March 1997. Runcorn (Home), (FA Trophy, 3rd Rd). WON 3 - 1.
