England Euros

We are a team full of talent but our manager has very very limited tactical nous, Fails to react when the opposition gets on top, we need a manager that can work with the talent we have, The ex Brighton manager or Klopp would be nice, The only way GS stays in the job is by winning the euros which is quite obvious that wont happen.
Why do we play with 2 defensiva midfielders, that makes us so much shower as we just Pass It side ways at the back.

                   Pickford
Walker.       Stones.      Guliah.      Trippier Huh

                    Rice

Saka.          Bellingham.        Gordon

                     Foden or Palmer

                     Kane

The real concern for me last night was that we pretty much all seem to accept that Trent is not the answer in CM.  Yet there was a stat doing the rounds that he played the most forward passes to break the lines of any player, and created more chances than any other player in the 54 mins he played.

So a player that the majority accept should not play where he is playing was the most creative player on the pitch (arguably - given stats etc), even though this is meant to be a team blessed with creative attacking footballers.

This suggests that something is seriously amiss.  I guess teams have played badly in group stages before and gone on to do well, so lets hope this is an example of that, but right now it doesn't seem as simple as saying changing one or two players and it'll be okay, there seems to be something more fundamentally wrong with the structure/balance/outlook/approach of the team.

TTA is almost being made a scapegoat by the press and you could even say by GS, When Foden booted the Ball Up field to nobody in min 80 VS Serbia while under pressure says a lot, my friend said the same about playing bad and then going onto win It like Argentina in the WC, but this goes  deeper than that.
Only I Hope is we stumble of a formation team that works but I Wont be suprised if its the same 11 as the first 2 games.

why play a player out of position? It's not as though there aren't any other English midfielders available.

It feels like Southgate is trying to play our best XI players rather than the best player in each position. Trent and Foden should not be playing in the positions they are.
Jude is more than good enough to play the box to box role, Rice as a lone 6 and Foden in the 10. I personally wouldn’t have taken Gordon but he needs to be out on that left wing. Southgate has been responsible for making us feel like we should be winning the Euros or World Cup, but there’s too many really odd decisions now.
If/when he goes after this tournament (because I can see it being his last tournament no matter the end result) I’d love Klopp or Howe to take over. Southgate is brilliant at the man management, PR side of things, he’s just lacking on the tactical side. We need someone that ticks the tactical box.

Pickford

Walker
Stones
Guehi
Trippier

Rice
Bellingham

Saka
Foden
Gordon

Kane

Yes I agree,if he had the tactical side he would be perfect for the role, Jude plays box to box for Madrid and he hasnt done bad, Frustrating also that Cole palmer does not getting any minutes, but GS likes to Pass the Ball about in our own half not try and worry the opposing side, that would be silly.
I think we are so worried about our defence being dodgy we forget to play to our strenghs.

This is pretty much what I would opt for, except maybe Eze for Gordon.  Although having moaned about square pegs/round holes that would arguably be another example of that.

I'd also have Trent at RB, but then I'm a Liverpool fan so I am biased, and its also not going to happen, and also accept that Walker is a good RB.

The English mentality. When we have a good game we are going to win the tournament when we have a bad game its the end of the world.

Win against Slovenia and we head the group. Job done.

We have great players, a good manager, and a game plan that is usually solid and can beat anyone. I think we'll settle, get better, and come through on the rails.

I'm very optimistic.

And if we **** up then no sweat, attention turns to City and our successful 2024/5 season.

10 out of 10 for footballing zen
