15 Years NLN/S Memories
#1

As this latest journey back at step 6 comes to an end, thought it might be a good thread to start to reminisce about some of our best memories of the past 15 years in what has been an historic period for us. I’ll start with a few:

09/10 - Southport 3-2 City
Our first game in the Conference North, the fans coach arrived just in time to see Mike Symons open the scoring but some were still coming through the turnstiles at the time. It was great to be in the same division as a club we’d gone to in the Trophy as such outsiders a few years before.

09/10 - Hyde 1-1 City
Might seem a random one on the face of it, but we scored a very late equaliser in that game when we were very new to the league on a Tuesday night. We were still getting used to the new distances we had to travel and it really felt like a massive goal at the time to show we can mix it with these new and unknown clubs.

09/10 - Blyth 0-3 City
Another one for me from the first season. We were just so bloody far from home! I’m pretty sure I heard Boris had said the planned night out in Newcastle wouldn’t be happening if we didn’t win so maybe that inspired a great away win!

14/15 - City 2-1 Chorley
Tom Webb with a late long range goal which went a long way to keeping us up that year.

16/17 - Stockport 1-1 City
City deny Stockport a playoff place in front of 5,783 which I believe was a NLN/S record crowd at the time? It was amazing to see us go toe to toe with a club like that in a stadium like that.

22/23 - City 4-3 Chorley
Feels like a lifetime ago now, but one of the greatest games in City’s history surely despite what has happened since.

I’m crap At remembering details, and I can’t be arsed to check our friend TR, but I’d add a 1-0 away win at Telford, with Vern getting the winner, as I felt we’d really arrived, and beating Fylde at home, and seeing James Rowe totally melt down amongst a sea of aubergines and Matty wearing a Noseybonk prosthetic.

Sticking around a while yet, thanks to a gift from a generous angel.

Absolute daylight robbery that was, they should've killed us off long before we scored.

The mass altercation vs Spenneymoor following Matt McClure’s alleged bite on their defender will live long in the memory!  That was the 21-22 season I think.

So good to play in front of a really big crowd like that. We are a world away from that kind of performance now Sad

There was one of their fans going absolutely nuts after that. I think he was either thrown out or sedated by the stewards. I felt for him, if the boot was on the other foot that would've been me. Their anger was justified and got two sent off for being the victims.

Tom Hamblin scoring at Solihull Moors, on a Tuesday night. City won 1 - 0, to give us our First Win, at National League North level.

The two visits I made to Broadhurst Park, FC Utd of Manchester. Both times, City won. Fantastic ground, FC Utd of Manchester fans were friendly, complimenting our team afterwards.

Jack Harris scoring at AFC Telford Utd. City won 1 - 0, helping our survival bid. Contributed in ending AFC Telford's Promotion bid.

Gloucester's unbeaten league run against Worcester City. Playing them away at St George's Lane, Aggborough, and Victoria Park.

Seeing Gary Neville at Salford City, opening day of the season. Paul Scholes was there, didn't see him. City drew 1 - 1, Joe Parker scored City's goal.

The two End of Season league matches at Colwyn Bay.

Watching City draw 2 - 2, at Edgley Park, Stockport County. Great to watch City play in a proper ground, good atmosphere.

City beating Hednesford Town, 5 - 1 at home, Whaddon Road, C********m Town. Hednesford were our bogey team.

Playing St Albans City away, winning 3 - 2. Ground full of character, set in a nice area.

Going to York Street, Boston United. My first visit there was the 1 - 0 FA Trophy win, Darren Mullings scored. Went there on a second occasion, league match, think we lost 3 - 0.

Andrew Adebowale, Hannah, Hoskins, Kirkup, Mainwaring, Tucker, Wollen.
 Danny ANDREW, Jake ANDREWS.

I really enjoyed city coming back from 2 down at Evesham to beat Chippenham in what felt like a must win game to stay up. 4 years ago?

6-3 win at Corby. Up to that point we'd been guarded against teams that we didn't know. Corby were a familiar opponent and we let rip.

3-0 win at Eastwood. I had zero expectation of us winning that night.

Fleetwood Town away. I saw a home fan punch their mascot in the face.

Vauxhall Motors away opening day of the season. Steve Davies played like Messi, then pulled up injured in the last minute and wasn't the same again.

Bishops Stortfors at Whaddon, 3-0 up after nine minutes

Worcester at Whaddon at Christmas, three quick goals at the start of the second half

Leamington away, injury time winner by Scott Wilson

Guiseley away, 4-1 win, Chris Jones 25 yarder

Oxford City at Whaddon. 1-7, they scored with every shot and brought about 20 fans.

AFC Telford away, late winner from Harry Williams

Stockport away, almost 6000 there

another 2-0 win at Telford when Luke Hopper sealed it with a late goal. I like late goals.

Torquay United away, we lost 1-2 but it was a 3000+ crowd and had a late equaliser disallowed

Kettering Town 3-1, first game at New Meadow Park. ALex Whittle with the outside of his boot early doors

Blyth at home. 20 minutes of sublime football, the best I've seen in 35 years

Chester at home, last minute winner from Asante

BPA at home, the Sky was an incredible colour

Kiddy at home, 0-2 down, 3-2 win

York away, 1-1 our first penalty of the season

Hereford away 3-1, Tre Mitford scored twoce against the run of play

1-0 at Kiddy - Matt McClure

Chorley & then Brackley

No highlights whatsoever this season

Hyde away in 2011. Watched Rooney’s overhead kick against Man City in a local boozer before watching another magician Darran Edwards bag a hat trick. We seemed to have so many good away wins in those early seasons in the NLN, made it all worthwhile.
