Random football questions thread

Thought I would start a thread with questions you've always wondered about football with the hope that someone may be able to help with the answers!

My first two questions are:

- Why do goalkeepers always come out for the pre-match warm-ups first and go back to the changing rooms before the rest of the team?

- Why do players now seem to cut holes in the back of their socks?

I can help on the second question! It’s a mixture of comfort and reducing cramp as they’re very tight.

Also, in conjunction with cutting them in half to go with grip socks the bane of grassroots football clubs, the amount of socks you go through now is ridiculous!

Football socks don't have feet in them. Is that what you meant?

They used to come with foot, but A LOT of players used to cut them off as they wear grip socks so just used as socks as sort of leg warmers. A few seasons ago, we started gutting only "Cuts", ie socks without feet (legwarmers!) which saved the players doing it. This caused much consternation for the legends game, when all the old players turned up, half of them in sliders with no socks on, to be given kits to play in with footless socks! Smile

Sticking around a while yet, thanks to a gift from a generous angel.

This evening, Leeds United were at home to Norwich City, in a Championship match. I would presume that Leeds would play in all white, and Norwich in Yellow and Green. Norwich were wearing (I think) an all black colour.
This season, Arsenal played away at Tottenham, in a all black kit.
I presume they wear it for revenue reasons. I just think it should be worn if there is a clash of colours.

Andrew Adebowale, Hannah, Hoskins, Kirkup, Mainwaring, Tucker, Wollen.
 Danny ANDREW, Jake ANDREWS.

To change from their warm-up kit into their matchday kit. Saves the match gloves in particular from wear and tear. Some ‘keepers wear non-sticky gloves for their warm-up to really test their handling.

The white Arsenal kit was an anti knife crime campaign which they've done before

Arsenal wearing their away kit at Tottenham was a League decision. Apparently it was felt they had too much white down the side of their shirt.

Here's a random question. Why are footballs round, and why is there only one of them in play at any one time.

Bloody hell, you've got good eyesight!
