Very sad news. He and Sally gave me a warm welcome in the club shop for my first game at Evesham. RIP Taff.

Late to the this thread but it would be remiss of me not to pay tribute to Taff.

He was a fantastic support to me during my time as trust chair and when I passed the baton on there was no debate who should take over and led the trust through the tumultuous move to Evesham making a success of the shipping container club shop which I'm sure was APs inspiration to build an entire stadium out of them.

A particular memory from when I was a teenager on the t-end was the confusion among Merthyr fans when he would refer to them with a Welsh based insult in a thick valleys accent.

Was a pleasure to see him earlier this season along with Sally but he was obviously suffering with his health at the time. He is now at least free of any pain he was suffering.

Hopefully I can make the funeral when details are announced

Thank you Mark for a fitting tribute. Must be tough you, Sally and rest of the family. I can still picture Sue's face as Sean turned up from watching football covered in mud! I seem to remember first meeting Ian with Dave Adlam at the away match in the cup at Stevenage. We had some excellent away days at football as well as meeting up at cricket and horse racing. I would like to add that Taff enjoyed baiting opposition goalkeepers but would usually shake hands with them at the final whistle or in the clubhouse afterwards. One exception was at Sutton Coldfield when the game was moving towards a goalless draw, the home keeper had reacted badly to the advice he was given by Taff and others and lost his temper and screamed abuse at us behind the goal, a foolish thing to do as this just increased the volley of "muppet" and "half-wit" etc. In the 94th minute the keeper fumbled an easy shot into the net much to the delight of the City fans. The keeper stood outside the area for the remaining minutes of the game, sprinting off at the final whistle and was nowhere to be seen in the bar afterwards. A pleasure to know Ian and will always bring a smile to the face when i remember him, a top man!

We won 1-0 at Sutton Coldfield in 2001, 2002 and 2003. Burns scored a penalty in 2002. Probably the 2003 win with Cox scoring.

Thanks for all your kind messages - they have really been of great comfort over the last week.

We have now finalised details of Dad's funeral which will be held at Gloucester Crematorium (Coney Hill Road, Gloucester, GL4 4PA) on Friday 22 March at 1.30pm. We would love to see as many of you there as possible. If you would like to wear club colours then it is requested that these are limited to club ties, scarves, etc.

After the service, we will be heading to the BMI Club (8 Bondend Road, Upton St Leonards, GL4 8AG) to celebrate Dad's life, have a drink and share memories that we all have of him.

As Dad approached the end of his life, he was admitted into Sue Ryder Leckhampton Court Hospice who provided specialist care to him when he needed it the most.
