My first game was Villa vs Liverpool, January 1982. I swear the place was rammed but looking at records it was nowhere near capacity.

Oddly I was also 8 though I suspect a few decades before yours!  FA Cup 1st Round  Yeovil Town v Shrewsbury at the old Huish ground.  Ex England International Ron Flowers played for the Shrews.  Still have vivid memories of the game.

Probably means nothing to anyone else - but this was my first ever city match and also my first ever football match I attended. I was 8 years old and remember walking down Sudmeadow Road expecting to see a 20,000 all seater stadium!

 
I took my late Uncle to a Gloucester City home match, on Bank Holiday Monday. I think it was the 1996/97 season, we were home to Halesowen Town, think we lost 3 - 0. (Will have to consult TR). 
 He enjoyed the game (despite the result). He was very surprised by the set up. I think he was expecting Staunton and Corse, rope around the pitch, jumpers for goalposts, kind of an environment. I don't know. 
 He was hooked anyway.

It was 0-3. 0-1 for a long time after Evran Wright who may or may not have been related to Andre Wright had scored in the first half, they scored tow very late goals.

And you get that expectation from ignorant people. There was a fella at work who had a "Man United" tattoo, he'd never been to a game. He asked me if he could get his lad a game at Gloucester. He seriously thought it was like a kids team. It's times like that when you realise that there's simply no hope.

I always thought that the Halesowen team of that era were a really decent side, but they never managed to win anything. They were something of a bogey team for us if I recall. 

These days it’s Brackley.

I expected exactly the same thing! Asked my dad if they were going to commentate on the match on my first visit to Ashton Gate as an 8 year old in 1992. I was very surprised when the speakers went silent at kick off. 

I do remember being impressed with the set up and the atmosphere on my first visit to Meadow Park in 1995. I had very low expectations.

27 March 1989

We were in seventh heaven as we turned over FGR 7-1 at MP as we marched towards winning the Midland Division.

Shaun Penny & Chris Townsend got 2 each with Brian Hughes, Ricky Chandler and Wayne Noble completing the scoring.

1216 turned up with probably the 6 coming from FGR

Today is also 14 years since we won 3-0 away at Blyth Spartans in our first season in Conference North. If I remember rightly, Boris told the players there would be no Newcastle night out if we didn't win! What a great motivation!

Funny thing is, I used to watch Stroud a few times a season. One time, I was stood under the cover alongside the side of the ground opposite the stand where the teabar was. There were the usual hundred in the crowd and I was imagining that this was a reserve match and the first team were away. Who'd have thought that that would turn into a type of reality!

So true. It's simple things like that that make a difference.

It was a great game too, could've ended 8-8. It pisses me off that we don't go away and try to beat teams any more
