Wishing a Very Happy Birthday to ex GCAFC loan player Luke Thomas. Luke is the Brother of ex GCAFC right back Kieran Thomas. Luke joined us on loan from Derby County, and made an impact our to Team.
Luke later went onto sign for Barnsley, and is now at Bristol Rovers on loan.

22nd February 2003.

On this date, Gloucester City AFC were in FA Trophy action. We were at the time, a Dr Martens League Western Division side, and we were facing Vauxhall Conference side Southport at home.
This was the FA Trophy 5th Round, the Meadow Park attendance for this game was 1237. Gloucester drew this game 1 - 1, Jimmy Cox scoring City's goal. City now had to play away at Southport, in a midweek FA Trophy Replay, at Haig Avenue.

I underwrote the cost of the supporters coaches to the replay. Fortunately they more than paid for themselves because they only cost £350 each. I think we had 2!

31 years ago today we lost 0-3 at Witton Albion in the FA Trophy.

It was a very rare trip up the M6 for us being very much a Southern League side and came on the back of a superb 3-1 win away at then Conference side Merthyr Tydfil four days earlier in a much postponed second round tie. I remember the trip home from Merthyr with current City kitman Karl Shepherd in the seat behind me on the coach moaning about having to get up for his milk round!

A unique thing about the game at Witton was that being in the Cheshire town of Northwich, Stroud FC were in the same town in the same round playing at Northwich Victoria and I belive that team from the dark side of the Golden Valley were at Altrincham.

RE: On this day - SHANDY LOVE MACHINE - 23-02-2022

I was at that game. It came during a period where I thought we could beat anyone, but afterwards I realised the gulf between our two respective divisions (were they Conference?). Brought hopes and expectations closer together Smile

Alas we were losing 2-1 to Wycombe that day according to Nesty's history site.

Crazy wasn't it, we were so soundly beaten that day.

24th February 2001.

It was 'El Glosico' of a sort on this date. No, it wasn't C********m Town or Cirencester Town, but another team that has the initials 'CT'.
Gloucester were facing Cinderford Town at Meadow Park, in a Dr Martens League Western Division fixture. The game finished in a 2 - 2 draw, watched by a crowd of 382. The City goalscorers were, Steve Jenkins and Karl Bayliss.
